What in the world would you and I do if there was no such thing as music?

Can you imagine a world without music? No songs, no tunes, no rock, no roll, no jazz, no hymns, no boogie-woogie, no country-western, no symphonies. No singing in the shower. No whistling Dixie.

Lovers wouldn t have songs to romance to. There would be no such thing as our song. Sinatra couldn t fly to the moon. Elvis couldn t complain about people stepping on his blue suede shoes. Tony Bennett would have to write a letter about how he left his heart in San Francisco. Willie might go on the road again, but without a guitar. And Ray Charles would look

Raising children can be trying. At times so much so that it even tempts devoted parents to wonder, How does the world manage to re-populate itself? So keeping a sense of humor is really important. Here s some crazy things kids say when taking piano lessons and practicing that parents need to be prepared to laugh at. Let s start with the whining. Amazingly these are things I ve heard young, beginning piano students say right after they have played a simple piece of music beautifully?

One of the difficulties about learning to play a new instrument is figuring out a repertoire of easy yet great sounding pieces. Here is a suggested list of nine pieces that fulfill this perfectly.

One of the important parts of a repertoire for the classical guitarist is understanding that the music of the classical guitar spans several hundred years and several genres of musical history. This repertoire gives you a nice cross section of these times and genres without being too difficult to play. It is a great selection that shows off the incredible range of expression found in the classical guitar.

Fur Elise is a famous piano solo by Beethoven. In this guitar lesson you will learn to play Fur Elise on your guitar. You don’t have to read sheet music notation so let’s start!

As I told you we will not use sheet music. Instead we will use guitar tablature.

Tablature is a form of musical notation, often with numbers and letters, which tells the player where to place their fingers on the guitar fretboard rather than which pitches to play.

I will use my own type of guitar tab notation today to make sure that the guitar tab is correctly displayed on article sites. The more common guitar tab staff notation you will find on my site.

Minor chords create a sound which is somber or serious; some people even think of minor chords as “sad”, as opposed to major chords which sound “normal”, or “happy”. Some of the great classics are written in minor keys, including Fur Elise by Beethoven, Prelude in C# Minor by Rachmaninoff, Prelude in Cm by Chopin, and many others. In popular music there is “Summertime”, “A Taste of Honey”, “‘Round Midnight”, etc. and in folk music there is “Greensleeves”, “Dark Eyes”, “Volga Boatman”,”When Johnny Comes Marching Home” and many more.
